With an illustrious career of achievement in theatre, film and television that has earned her distinctive stature throughout the entire entertainment profession, Doris Roberts was selected by the prestigious American Film Institute as one of five actresses of the year in 2001.
She went on to receive her third Emmy Award for her role as the beloved, but meddlesome Mother on the popular CBS television series, Everybody Loves Raymond.
Roberts’ dream of becoming a professional actress came true in 1955 when she debuted on Broadway in William Saroyan’s classic The Time of Your Life. And Lily Tomlin coaxed her to join her comedy series, The Lily Tomlin Comedy Hour, which began a new and thriving career in television. She became a regular on several other popular shows including Everybody Loves Raymond.
Her film accolades include National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, A Lovely Way to Die, Heartbreak Kid and Simple Justice.
Roberts continues to shine in her craft while active in community service as a founder of the Children Affected by AIDS and Puppies Behind Bars.
She is a formidable fighter for the rights of fellow actors in the battle against “ageism.” Roberts insists, “There’s always a new challenge around the corner and I’ll be ready when it comes!”
